Project Notice: Magalia - Coutolenc Head Dam Phase 1

To enhance public safety and reduce hazardous fuels in Magalia, the Butte County Fire Safe Council (BCFSC), in collaboration with Plumas National Forest of the U.S. Forest Service (PNF USFS) and the Department of Agriculture (USDA), will carry out fuels reduction through grapple piling, hand cutting, hand piling, wind rowing, hand falling, and fire control line construction to prepare the landscape for recurring prescribed fire.

The project is strategically located along Coutolenc Road (north of New Skyway), spanning 35.7 acres of treatment. The location is part of a larger effort to connect upcoming projects implemented by other agencies to improve overall community safety. Work will be done in an environmentally sensitive manner to improve forest health and create a fire-ready landscape. Work is scheduled to begin in mid-October and will continue through January 31.

The Butte County Fire Safe Council is a grassroots non-profit organization that implements a variety of fuels reduction and forest health projects in operation around Butte County including Forbestown, Berry Creek, Forest Ranch, Cohasset, Paradise, Big Chico Creek Canyon, and Oroville Foothills. More information can be found on BCFSC's website at buttefiresafe.net, on Facebook, or by calling our office at (530) 877-0984.
